About
Madeleine Fortney is a final-year rabbinical student at HUC-JIR in New York. She is passionate about building Jewish community, working toward a more just and kind world, and engaging with our tradition in ways which help us make meaning in our everyday lives.
During her time as a rabbinical student, Madeleine served as a student rabbi at Kolot Chayeinu in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and as the rabbinic intern at Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester in Chappaqua, NY. She also held a high holy day pulpit at Adath Yeshurun in Aiken, SC and worked as a chaplain intern at NYU-Langone Health. Madeleine earned her Certificate in Jewish Organizational Leadership through the Zelikow School.
Originally from Northern Virginia, Madeleine attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she studied Communication as well as Jewish Studies and Women’s & Gender Studies. During college, she served as the student president of Hillel at Drexel University and worked at Reconstructing Judaism. Madeleine lives in Brooklyn, where she enjoys reading in the park, braiding challah, and playing with her cat, Luna.
